Age Concern Sandwich has been supporting people living with dementia and their families at the Sunflower Centre since 2011. Our services provide specialist support for anyone living with dementia. We provide information and advice on all aspects of dementia and connect you to other local support services.
The Sunflower Centre and COGS Club provide day respite, giving the person living with dementia a fun filled day out that provides social stimulation. We host a wide variety of activities, support groups and services to people in East Kent to support people with dementia, families and carers. These include Memory Cafés, Peer Support Groups, Drop-in Clinics, singing sessions and Young Onset Group. Age Concern Sandwich organises annual Dementia Roadshows, bringing a wide range of organisations to one venue, for anyone affected by dementia to see what support is available locally.
Age Concern Sandwich are proud delivery partners for the Dementia & Me service which includes Dementia & Me Co-ordinators who are the single point of contact for help and support, pre and post diagnosis of dementia.
Out-reach activities such as Memory Cafés, Peer Support Groups, Drop-in information sessions and Young Onset groups are arranged by the Dementia & Me Organiser with activity groups in Sandwich and Deal.
Activities we run can be found on our Events Calendar here.
The Sunflower Centre is for people over 50 with dementia who are unsuitable for social day care because of a need for greater attention and stimulation or a more secure environment.

High staffing care levels in a kind and caring environment.
The Sunflower Centre is open Monday to Friday 9:30am- 3:00pm.
More about the Sunflower Dementia CentreMore than 100 dementia safeguarding tags have been given out to people living with dementia or their loved ones in the district.
The new tags are an extra tool in supporting people living with dementia and to help keep them safe when they are out on their own.
Family members and loved ones can input their details onto the tag’s QR code so when scanned by a mobile phone, they can be contacted. This means if a person with dementia becomes confused or disorientated, the next of kin can be called immediately. This helps gives peace of mind while also allowing the person to maintain their independence.
Dover District Council is promoting the tags in the local community so should anyone see someone wearing one who might need help, they will know what to do.
