It is important to set out exactly what we mean by a "volunteer" as opposed to someone else who might be helping provide services or care for our clients at Age Concern.
In a nutshell, we define a volunteer as someone who has graciously donated his or her time, on a voluntary basis providing help as may be required by Age Concern.
As a volunteer you will, of course not be an employee of Age Concern and, although we are extremely grateful, will not receive payment for your services.
The time that volunteers can give Age Concern will vary. Some of our volunteers may, for example, be able to give regular amounts of time per week where as others may only be able to give their time during holiday periods.
Although we would like you to provide us with as much time as possible, we do understand that you will have other commitments.
We will aim to try and schedule your time with us whenever it suits you. As a volunteer you are not legally committed to accept work from Age Concern, and we are similarly not committed to provide work. However, where possible, we would we want to establish regular times, which suit your other commitments and our services to clients.
If, for whatever reason, you find that you cannot make your rostered times we would ask that you provide us with as much notice as possible so we can, of course, find a short term volunteer.
You will be asked to sign that you have received this Volunteers Handbook and that you understand the role you will be undertaking as a volunteer at Age Concern.
We have two local Charity Shops in Market Street and the Cattle Market.
Assist in our Day Centre or SunFlower Centre helping with activities, serving refreshments and chatting to our clients.
